LEPETITFESTIVAL has been initiated as an alternative to institutional places for
artist’s work and exchange. Conceived and curated as a festival of
experimentation by choreographer, dancer and mulimedia artist Joao Costa
Espinho, it aims to propose alternative space and time for artists to meet,
share, be together, out of any production implications. This way of sharing
space and time seeks to offer conditions for the artists to propose any
situations in relation to what they need in that particular moment: a kind of
interactive Carte Blanche to each artist invited or that joins the group.
LEPETITFESTIVAL alternates moments of
discussion around a table ; performative practices ; art installation as well
as video and dance among other mediums. It installs a way of networking in real
time, sharing processing and methods ; ideas and concepts in interaction with
the momental conditions and presence of people, as a both intimate and open
moment for discovery of other artist’s work. This makes LEPETITFESTIVAL a rare
occasion of sharing experience, open to the risk of the human and artistic
condition of each moment and contextual contingency. Under curatorship of Joao
Costa Espinho , the first editions of LEPETITFESTIVAL, organized in the
Salabranca Lab house-studio in Paris, have been focusing on the work of Women
Artists from Portugal and all around the world. Each edition proposes a
specific format, in relation to the local context and the local artists which
will be part of the festival. LEPETITFESTIVAL does not benefit from any
financial support; its existence is due to the involvement of its curator; its
success due each time thanks to the rare combination of artists together and
its shared context. LEPETITFESTIVAL now ambitions to disseminate with editions
in other cities and contexts. The latest one is organized in the Maison du Portugal, in Paris, from the 02nd to the 04th of november 2018.
